Discover what happened in Google Street View last week (25 - 31 July 2022)

Main Events

  • India was officially announced by Google and Street View is already available in many cities
  • Peru received its first update in 7 years, introducing gen 4 imagery to the country
  • A Google Street View car was spotted in Malta, confirming the country to be updated for the first time since its introduction to the service in 2016
  • The United Arab Emirates now have at least one regular Street View car as one car was spotted in Fujairah
  • New countries received their first July 2022 coverage: Belgium, Brazil, India, Ireland, Philippines, Singapore, Slovenia, United Kingdom
  • A list update happened, refreshing some Japanese entries but also adding Luxembourg back for this year

Continuous Updates

Last week updates were found in 35 countries.

The major update was the official introduction of India to Google Street View. Last week we reported a few small patches of coverage that were removed later but now whole cities are covered. Officially 10 cities were planned for the first release but way more areas are already available. The major flaw is the imagery quality which is quite weak: even Google’s own gen 2 cameras which debuted in 2008 offer a better quality. A new article dedicated to India will be published in the next days for a more in-depth study of the situation.

In Peru the first updates appeared. While two cars were spotted in Lima, more cars were driving in other parts of the country as Cajamarca and Junín departments also got updates.

After 14 years, Monument Valley is finally updated. The old, blurry gen 1 imagery is now replaced by very high quality gen 4 coverage. While some areas are unfortunately affected by stitching errors, making some pictures filled with patches of blur, most of the coverage still provide incredible views of the unique landscape.

Chile received gen 4 in new regions, ranging from Chiloe island in Los Lagos to Valparaíso in the north. Colombia also got many updates in multiple areas along with Argentina in the northeast.

Other notable updates can be found in Indonesia with new roads being added in Lombok, Kalimantan or Sulawesi, a lot of gen1 / 2 coverage updated in New South Wales, Australia, more new roads in Turkey or new covered areas along the Myanmar border in western Thailand.
